Marcia Bacalhau, Baca as her friends call her, was born in the Northeast of Brazil. She is part Portuguese, Dutch, and Native Brazilian. Baca grew up on a large ranch and had a simple and wonderful childhood. Baca had her first contact with the art world through her teacher. As a child she wrote and directed school plays and also performed in the folkloric celebration of Carnaval. At the age of 13 she was given her first paint brush by her mother, and started painting glass doors and windows, then moved on to carbon sketches and graffiti. At 21 she moved to the big city of Sao Paulo and started painting oil, rural scenarios at first, since they brought her beautiful memories of her childhood. In 1991, she went on a snorkel and diving trip to the island of Fernando de Noronha in Brazil, where she instantly fell in love with the underwater world and its creatures, a love that showed, and captured, in her paintings. read more.. |
